SPILLARD OPTRONICS SYSTEM STANDS THE TEST OF TIME

Whilst undertaking a safety survey of mobile plant seats and door retaining catches on behalf of Tarmac at its Ballidon Quarry near Ashbourne in Derbyshire, Vic Spillard of Spillard Safety Systems was delighted to discover one the company’s older Optronics rear-view colour camera systems still in excellent working order on a skid steer loader.

On checking records held at Spillard’s Staffordshire offices, the Tarmac rear-view system was found to be of 2001 vintage and had originally been installed on a 50 tonne dump truck prior to its move to the diminutive skid steer machine in 2003.

The records also showed that only one fault had ever been reported on the system which was traced to the power distribution box, replaced under warranty at the time of the swop between machines.

Commenting on the find, Spillard’s managing director Pete Spillard said: “We have always promoted the high quality of our safety equipment and its ability to cope with tough environments and this 6 year old rear-view system is a great example of the robust nature of our Optronics systems.”

Part of the Anglo American plc group, Tarmac takes great pride in its safety record, assisted by the development of its ‘Golden Rules’ strategy designed to promote high level of safety awareness throughout its UK operations.
