A new approach to insurance

The BSIF (British Safety Industry Federation) has combined with Flint Insurance to create a new approach to commercial insurance on the basis that independent evidence of a genuine application of good health and safety practices will provide lower insurance costs for commercial organizations.

The BSIF has long held the view that insufficient attention has been paid to adequate risk assessments when underwriters are calculating premiums for public/product liability, employee liability and professional indemnity insurances. The nature of these insurances and the lack of a knowledgeable understanding of the risks involved often result in disproportionately high premiums.

Following detailed research into the possibility of creating a special scheme for the safety industry and discussions with key underwriters, the BSIF and the Flint Insurance Group have announced the launch of SafeSure.

While the SafeSure scheme was initially generated to appeal to members of the BSIF, it is likely that it will benefit a wide range of industrial organizations who can evidence a strong safety culture and a visible attention towards industrial safety. Manufacturers of regulated safety products and specialist distributors of PPE, safety products and equipment are all likely to qualify for beneficial premiums. Clients of safety professionals accredited within the BSIF SafeCert scheme are also likely to qualify if they can evidence implementation of the recommended safety practices and procedures.
